Asclepias incarnata, is another adaptable milkweed. Once established it can tolerate short periods of drier conditions. If too much time has passed between rains, it may be necessary to occasionally water. It grows approximately three to five feet tall and one to two feet wide. I have seen this grow to six feet tall in the wild in Hernando county. The light to medium pink blossoms appear from Spring to Fall. It grows from Florida and up the Eastern seaboard to Maine.
Larval host to the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus), queen butterfly (Danaus gilippus) and soldier butterfly, (Danaus eresimus). Despite its name, this is not the preferred larval host of the monarch.
